You Don't Bring Me Flowers

We actually, he did. Tyler, Hanna's new boyfriend, showed up with fresh yellow roses on Christmas Day. I couldn't resist capturing an image of these blooms, which were just beginning to peel back and say hello at the holidays. Also, my apologies for the Neil Diamond/Barbra Streisand song reference in the blog title. Here's hoping you don't have that late 70's song stuck in your head today.

Did you know that today yellow roses are associated with joy and friendship? Obviously Tyler did. But when they were first discovered in the 18th century and introduced to Europe, the color yellow had much more negative overtones. Because of this, for a long time yellow roses were a symbol of jealousy and dying love. It's good to see that trend has changed, with yellow roses now a sign of appreciation and delight.
