Stocking Stuffers

I read a great article last night in The New Yorker about stocking stuffers. The article referred to these gifts as "all prizes, no crackerjacks." What a great description! While the article was quick to point out that most items in a stocking, sock, or piece of hosiery hanging from a mantle/fireplace are small small items, it also mentioned that there are sometimes big small items in that stocking. It referenced a $1000 check, something I've never seen on Christmas morn.

Nevertheless, opening my stocking is one of my favorite parts of Christmas morning. Not only is the stocking where all of that delicious chocolate and those juicy mandarins reside, but there are usually some fun surprises and also practical gifts in there, such as socks, cologne, and gift cards!

So how does your family do stockings at Christmas? What sorts of treasures do you find in yours each year? Remember - tomorrow is the last day to enter the free 8x10 contest by commenting on the blog up to one time per day!!! The winner will be notified Saturday morning!

  1. Stockings were never a big deal in my house growing up, but Chris's family does awesome stockings and since then I've really been into them. I hope Chris puts some Sees candy in my stocking - I know he'll read this post :) hint hint!

  2. Yeah - we mix gift cards, candy, doodads, socks, that kind of thing. But I don't know, See's candy is awfully big to put in a stocking . . .
